Rugby: Fallon must wait on Cistercian all-clear Giants of Ulster to collide Sligo send early warning

St Mary's number eight Mark Fallon (shoulder) and loosehead prop Gerry Gallivan (hand) will have to bide their time to make it back for a quarter-final tussle with Cistercian Roscrea.

Coach Rodney O'Donnell will have to adopt a wait-and-see approach to two players who were forced off as a consequence of the give-and-take of their first round win over Newpark Comprehensive.

Horan proves the hero as Kilkenny sink St Andrew's

Fraser Horan was the hero on hand to strike a second-half hat-trick of tries in Kilkenny College's 41-0 whitewash of St Andrew's in Naas on Tuesday.

The centre is blessed with the pedigree to succeed in the heat of the Schools Cup.

It was his brother Ben with the captain's armband when Kilkenny eclipsed Blackrock in a replay of the 2007 quarter-final.

Giants of Ulster to collide

The traditional powerhouses of Ulster rugby will take to the field for the first time this season on Saturday with odds-on favourites Methodist, with Ireland Schools half-backs Blane McIlroy and Paddy Jackson at the controls, down to confront Chris Colvin's Royal Armagh in Belfast.

Royal Belfast Academical Institution, who have Ireland U19 centre Michael McAuley, and Belfast Royal Academy -- that's RBAI and BRA to you -- will scrap it out for the fifth round place in another mouth-watering collision.

Sligo send early warning

The good news for favourites Sligo Grammar is that they got their Connacht Senior Cup campaign up and running with an impressive 55-3 drubbing of Marist College Athlone at The Mall on Tuesday.

The bad news for everyone else is that they expect to have Connacht scrum-half Oskar van der Grijn back for the semi-final against either Gallen, St Joseph's (The Bish) or Athenry.
