Salmon club make the Leap to Baku for European Games

Four members - including a brother and sister - from the Salmon Leap club in Leixlip have made the Irish canoeing team for the Baku Azerbaijan European Games starting tomorrow.

Leading the team is Jenny Egan (inset), bronze medal winner in the 5000m at the recent European Championships. She goes in the K1 200m and 500m, as well as her specialist 5000m.

Egan's brother Peter pairs up with Simas Dobrovoloskis in a K2 boat for the 200m, while Peter also lines out in the K1 5000m.

The fourth Salmon Leap member is Tom Brennan who competes in the K1 200m.

Irish Olympian Andrzej Jezierski from Argonauts Cork, who is back living and training in Poland, competes in the C1 200m. Venue for the canoeing is the Kur Sports and Rowing Centre.

In wrestling, Alexander Dolly will fight for Ireland in the 84kg freestyle division at the Baku Games.Soslan Tuaev was also due to compete, but pulled out after a serious injury.
