Women's game tackled

LEINSTER Community Rugby hosted, on behalf of the IRFU, a further seminar in the Welcoming Clubs process at Westmanstown.

This time the subject was Women in Rugby, which covered all aspects of women's involvement in the game and highlighted the roles of players, coaches, referees, committee members, social members, fundraisers and, of course, parents.

The workshop was attended by representatives from over 20 Leinster clubs and also focused on how clubs benefit from a girls'/women's section, how they can be started and the development of a strategic plan for creating and sustaining the women's game in Ireland.

There was also a forum to discuss the experiences of clubs who have a women's rugby section and how they can develop further, perhaps via girls' tag sessions, age-grade games and full-contact rugby.

The seminar was facilitated by Catriona Bergin (IRFU), Jennie Bagnall (Leinster Rugby women's CRO) and Niall Neville (Leinster Rugby CRO). Thanks to Westmanstown RFC for the use of their excellent facilities.
