Women stay fit in popular tag training

Women in Enniscorthy have found a new way of keeping fit over the autumn and winter.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday night in Enniscorthy and Thursday nights in Rathnure, women have taken up tag rugby as a new fun and social exercise.

The non-contact aspect of tag, and the women-only concept, has seen up to 60 players regularly participate every week.

It has also led to the formation of a new women's rugby team in local club Enniscorthy RFC.

According to community rugby officer David Ryan, who organises the sessions, demand is high.

"It only started out as a request from a small number of women to do one night a week on the local astro turf.

"But through word of mouth the numbers increased and demand resulted in the need for an extra night in Enniscorthy and a night in Rathnure.

"The creation of a full contact women's rugby team in Enniscorthy RFC was the next step."

Enniscorthy RFC's women's team trains every Friday night at 8.30pm. For more details on ERFC women's rugby or women-only tag nights, please contact David Ryan on 087 627 7099 or visit www.enniscorthyrugby.com.
