Ulster desperate for points

THE Ulster hierarchy did not import their South African beef for days like these in Europe against the Italian minnows -- at least, not at first.

Aironi have become no one's pushovers on their own soil. Leicester Tigers could not secure a bonus-point in their 28-12 victory on week one of this competition and they shocked Biarritz there last season.

The northern province must secure five points to maintain their drive to the quarter-finals, given that they have to host the Tigers in the fifth round and travel to Clermont-Auvergne in the sixth.

Coach Brian McLaughlin will stress the importance of forward domination, of winning the ball and keeping it, of going narrow until the time is right to release a backline that can finish.

Aironi v Ulster, Stadio Brianteo, Monza, TOMORROW 1.30 (Irish Time)
