Trionóide girls taking to rugby

ARDSCOIL Na Trionóide secondary school of Athy have a girls rugby programme up and running. The girls are currently training one day per week after school. This ties in with ladies' rugby development in the area with Athy RFC fielding a ladies' team for the first time in the 2012/13 season.

The coaching in the school is carried out by local CCRO Joe Carbery with the help of ladies players from the club team. It is hoped that with the help of these coaches Athy RFC will be in a position to field an U-12 and U-18 team for the 2013/14 season.

After a few years of trying, Ardscoil Na Trionóide of Athy achieved a milestone by entering two girls rugby teams in a tag rugby blitz held in Newbridge in March.
