Scholarship a big hit

The formative year of the Trinity Comprehensive rugby scholarship has been a massive success with all of the students gaining valuable extra rugby experience along with the opportunity to extend their studies and knowledge of the ins and outs of third-level education.

Over the year, the participants have been to Ireland and Leinster Rugby matches, visited third-level education centres, been given extra rugby sessions and got a coaching qualification after taking part in the IRFU mini coaching course.

The participants will get an opportunity to continue their coaching over the summer as assistant coaches on Unidare RFC's Minis Summer Camp (July 1-5). All of this along with the extra tuition provided for them by teachers from the school has given the students an opportunity to further themselves from a sporting and educational standpoint.

Next year, the scholarship is set to take on 15 new students. Anyone who would like to help out as a mentor, or anyone who would like to get involved as a sponsor of the scholarship can contact Colm Finnegan, community rugby officer, on cfinny1@yahoo.co.uk or at 087-7692257.
