Monks' make big charity heave on Strand

MEMBERS and supporters of Monkstown FC got together and hit Sandymount Strand to raise much needed funds for charity. And through the combined generosity of the members and local community, the event was a huge success.

A 55-strong field of players, pavilion members, local residents and families ran or walked the seven kilometres at Sandymount Strand in support of MFC and the Irish Cancer Society.

Monkstown communications director Christian Kinnear said: "We are always looking to find innovative ways to broaden how we fundraise, and to involve the local community.

"The Sandymount 7K ticked both boxes."

Raising €1,900, the first annual Sandymount 7K was a resounding success and another sign of the club's eagerness to embrace its local community and all in aid of a worthy cause.

"There are many people in the club and community who have been affected directly by cancer, but in reality it touches everyone," Kinnear added.

The route took in the promenade and the arc of the bay to Irish Town Wildlife Park. Looking forward to next year's Sandymount 7K already.
