Mary's start at Stradbrook

AS THE J1 Metro League gets going this weekend, it's hard to predict any real form yet as the Senior Seconds League Cup had quite a few blanks in it.

However, the finalists are known, as Clontarf gave Terenure a good hiding, while at Anglesea Road Old Belvedere accounted for UCD fairly handily.

In Section 'A', where games are played on a home and away basis for eight teams, the action kicks off with St Mary's travelling to Stradbrook where they will look to begin the defence of their crown in winning style.

Bective host near neighbours Old Belvedere, while the colleges of Trinity and UCD take on Lansdowne and Clontarf respectively.

In Section B, split into Pools 1 and 2, Greystones can grab the DART from one end of the line to the other to Sutton, Seapoint entertain DLSP, and Old Wesley must travel to Naas. In Pool 2, Terenure host Wanderers and NUIM Barnhall welcome Boyne.

Junior 2 actually kicked off last weekend, but is suffering from a lack of teams competing at this level.

In J2, Mary's and Belvo got off to bonus point wins against CYM and UCD respectively. Mary's might find it a tad tougher this weekend when Lansdowne come calling in a double-header with the corresponding AIL fixture. Prediction? Two home wins. UCD will host CYM in Belfield.

In Pool 2, it's Stillorgan v Wanderers, DLSP v Wesley and Bective v 'Tarf.

The J3 kicks off this weekend too and, although it has become the Friday night attraction, most games are on Sunday this weekend with only Wesley v Belvo and Naas v Salmo going ahead tonight.

On Sunday, in Section A, it's Terenure v Greystones, Blackrock v Lansdowne and Skerries must make the long journey to Seapoint. In Section B, it's Trinity v Monkstown, RCSI v 'Tarf and NUIM v Bective.

The JP Fanagan kicks off this weekend, though its fixtures will be redrawn due to teams being forced to withdraw.
