IN the J1 League Section A, Mary's remain on top and the only unbeaten side after their hard-fought but entertaining match last Monday on the back pitch in the Aviva.
With Old Belvedere enjoying a handsome win over Clontarf, they remain second, four points behind Mary's, their position improved by a bonus point haul of four. 'Tarf lie third, while Lansdowne stay fourth, even after gaining a valuable bonus point over Mary's. The next match in this section takes place next Tuesday, with the varsity clash at Belfield Bowl.
In Section B Phase II, Navan and Naas lock horns in Navan, while the two bottom teams will slog it out in the Aviva stadium when Wanderers take on Sutton. Leaders DLSP sit it out this weekend.
In Junior 2, it was week one of Phase 2. In Section A, poor Wesley's worst fears of making the top pool by the skin of their teeth were realised when they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Lansdowne. Mary's held out for a hard-fought win against ambitious Stillorgan while, in the final pairing, 'Tarf were beaten by Belvedere.
Those results leave Lansdowne and Mary's tied at the top. In Section B, Bective continued their winning ways in accounting for UCD, while poor CYM's losing run continued at the hands of Wanderers. It won't be any easier for them this week when Bective come a calling.
In U21 JP Fanagan, the tie of the weekend would have to be Mary's v Terenure -- 'Nure have yet to win a game, so could this be the one?
