Kearney is Writers' Player of Year

LEINSTER full-back Rob Kearney was named the Rugby Writers' Player of the Year at a function in the Aviva Stadium last night.

RULED out through injury at the moment, Kearney enjoyed a spectacular season for Leinster and Ireland and is the standout candidate for the 2013 British & Irish Lions No 15 Test jersey.

In the past season, he was a consistent performer for both province and country and aided Leinster greatly in their successful defence of the European Cup.

Kearney started in all nine cup games and scored six tries.

Kearney has also been ever present in Ireland's No 15 jersey following the defeat of Australia at the World Cup, although a back operation unfortunately ruled him out of the November series.

Leinster were named the Team of the Year for their unparalleled achievement of winning a third Heineken Cup in four years.
