Jarvis gets backup call for Jones

UNCAPPED prop Aaron Jarvis is ready to step into the breach if his mentor Adam Jones is forced to miss any of Wales' autumn Test campaign.

OSPREYS tighthead Jones (31) has been struggling with a knee injury and is doubtful for at least the first of the November games against Argentina.

The loss of the British Lions prop would be a sizeable blow as Wales look to bounce back from their 3-0 series defeat to Australia in the summer.

Wales interim head coach Rob Howley named Jones in his 35-man squad for the games against the Pumas, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia on Monday, but ongoing concerns over his fitness have seen 19-year-old Scarlets prop Samson Lee called in to train with the squad as cover when they head to Poland for a pre-series training camp.

His Ospreys colleague Jarvis was also named in Howley's squad. The 26-year-old was the only uncapped player in the initial selection, having impressed for his region while Jones' game time has been limited.

Vunipola's on England radar

Saracens prop Mako Vunipola is expected to be fast-tracked into the England set-up for the QBE autumn internationals when coach Stuart Lancaster finalises his squad tomorrow.

Vunipola has emerged as the likely replacement for Alex Corbisiero, who is not due to return to action from a knee injury until mid-November.

Lancaster will also announce replacements for Ben Foden, Tom Croft and Rob Webber, who are all out of England's November Tests.

Leicester hooker Tom Youngs, who toured South Africa with England this summer, is set to be promoted into the senior squad as Dylan Hartley's understudy.
