IRFU try to play down scrum job

The IRFU insists that its advertisement for a "High Performance Scrum Coach" is not a response to Ireland's scrum destruction by England.

The advertisement seeks a coach to lead and manage a programme to unearth and develop young props for Irish senior rugby.

The announcement at first smacks of a reflex reaction to last Saturday's Six Nations defeat. But the IRFU say there is a little more to it than that.

"This is not connected with the Irish senior squad. It is a process that has been in development for the last three or four months," said an IRFU spokesman.

This does not affect the position of Leinster scrum coach Greg Feek or his engagement as a scrum consultant to Ireland. National and Senior provincial teams will maintain their existing coaching arrangements.
