Inchicore CFE squeeze past local rivals in epic at Arena

Inchicore CFE senior girls celebrated victory over Crumlin CFE with a narrow 24-21 win over their close rivals at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

Crumlin dominated early in the game as Inchicore struggled to find their feet, but the Emmet Road college clawed their way back into the game taking a two-point advantage into the break.

After the restart Inchicore's Amanda Duffy and Crumlin's Hannah Dixon traded points. Leading 19-18, and with the clock ticking down, Inchicore's Catherine Rodger's three- point play swayed the game in their favour.

Crumlin's response was swift, with Kathryn Larkin and Jamie Homan scores leaving one point between the sides.

However, Duffy's effort in the dying seconds wrapped up the win for Inchicore and with Shelly Behan being awarded MVP, the disappointment of last year's final defeat was forgotten.

Presentation Terenure overwhelmed Larkin Community College with a no-nonsense display to capture the intermediate girls' crown 43-16.

In the junior boys and girls finals, reigning champions Kylemore College and Larkin Community College successfully defended their titles against Coláiste Dhúlaigh in both finals.

Earlier in the day Larkin Community College and Coláiste Dhúlaigh had contested the minor boys' final, with Larkin narrowly defeating the Coolock college 9-8 and capturing the first of two trophies on the day.

Kylemore College's girls' minor side got the better of Presentation Terenure with MVP going to Kylemore's Shannon O'Keefe Ryan.
