SHANE HORGAN has called on the IRFU to reverse their policy on foreign players as Leinster continue their fight to hold on to star backs Isa Nacewa and Luke Fitzgerald.
"There's a group of players at Leinster who only know success and they should be nailed down to continue that into the future," said the double Heineken Cup winner.
"We shouldn't be losing top players."
Horgan, who labelled the IRFU's proposed restrictions on foreign players "ridiculous", is certain that the policy will be reversed, allowing Nacewa to stay at Leinster.
"I would be very surprised if that policy was implemented because I think it's unworkable as it stands.
"There'll have to be an awful lot more consultation on it between IRUPA and with the provinces," said Horgan. "It seems to have been a diktat presented to them. Isa's example has highlighted the potential injustice of it. I don't even like the term 'foreign player'. He's as much Leinster as anybody else. He's the heartbeat of that team."
Horgan said of Fitzgerald: "Luke should stay. It's unfortunate the way things have been dealt with. He's integral to Leinster and Ireland."
