Elwood to quit with Eddie in line

FORMER Ireland boss Eddie O'Sullivan has emerged as the favourite to replace Eric Elwood after the former Irish out-half surprisingly revealed he would be stepping down as Connacht head coach at the end of the season.

Elwood revealed that he would be ending his 24-year association with the western province as he faces into a second successive Heineken Cup campaign beginning with a trip to Italy to take on Zebre on October 13.

O'Sullivan lives in Galway, but the club may decide to continue the successful policy of promoting from within and both forwards coach Dan McFarland and defence coach Billy Millard would be a respected coaching ticket. Bernard Jackman is also an option.
