Crosspatrick get tagged in for a rugby lesson

TAG Rugby was introduced to Crosspatrick Mixed NS for the first time this year and the Kilkenny CCRO Barry Daly was more than happy to answer the call from school principal, Denis Doheny. Crosspatrick NS is only a two-class school comprising of 11 girls and 15 boys aged between four and 13.

The 26 kids play tag rugby games together on Thursday mornings, which will culminate in a three-school Tag Rugby Blitz in late March with near neighbours Johnstown NS and Urlingford NS.

Denis was full of praise for the Leinster Rugby Program: "We started doing tag rugby this year in our school with Barry Daly as the coach. This is a great opportunity for the pupils to learn new ball skills, tag rugby and various games.

"The children thoroughly enjoy this and look forward eagerly to it every week.

"Tag rugby is a great game for children of all ages with simple rules.

"It's mostly a non-contact sport which means it is quite safe to play. We are delighted to have a coach from Leinster Rugby to show us how to do this and we have recently purchased a set of tags and belts for the school."
