Connacht at the mercy of Gloucester cunning

THE Heineken Cup is beginning to look like a millstone around Eric Elwood's (pictured) neck.

Connacht's limited resources were already stretched to breaking point long before this came along. The positivity and excitement of the first taste of the Heineken is having a detrimental knock-on effect.

They slouch at the foot of Pool Six with a single point from three matches. They are out of contention and out of ideas, it would seem, on how to counter the greater physical firepower of the monster forward packs that roam Europe.

The Cherry and Whites coach Bryan Redpath now knows the quickest way to disarm Connacht is to nullify their go-forward at lineout, maul and ruck time. From there, the home side should find holes in the outer channels.
