Coaching course a success

THE latest Leinster Rugby-tutored course for north east coaches saw two significant features. Tutor Gerry McCleery, Fingal community coaching officer, was assisted by Westmanstown RFC's CCRO Ken Moore, who was getting his first taste of tutoring.

Ken delivered a couple of modules which will help his confidence in terms of coaching coaches, but a feedback session after the course will help him with content and delivery.

Gerry said: "Overall he was very good, but the success of these courses depends very much on the engagement of the attending coaches and in this aspect, he generated a lot of input and relevant observations from them."

The second encouraging development was the attendance of female coaches. Just under a quarter of the attendance, five out of 24, were women.

"It reflects the quickly increasing interest from girls who are playing or getting involved in coaching' said Gerry, who himself has commenced working with an U16 girls team in Skerries. He is keen to develop that project or assist similar in Fingal. Contact ger.mccleery@leinsterrugby.ie.
