Clontarf conjure consolation in Cup by blasting past Belvo'

WE'RE really at the business end of the season now with just a few Cup semis and finals to be played.

In the 98 FM Metropolitan Cup semi-finals, favourites Clontarf got a small consolation for their AIL defeat on Saturday when they defeated Old Belvedere comprehensively. In the other semi, NUIM Barnhall beat Coolmine. The final is on Sunday.

In the McCorry Cup semi-finals UCD demolished Terenure last weekend. In the other semi Lansdowne just about squeezed through against Blackrock.

An indication of the strength of both these academies, in Lansdowne and UCD, is the fact that the same two teams also competed in the Purcell Cup final on Tuesday night last -- with UCD emerging with a 14 -10 victory.

Last Saturday, Lansdowne had to come from behind to beat St Mary's in an entertaining O'Connell Cup clash.

Lansdowne also finished off a successful season at J3 level when they beat a very strong Terenure College side 25-8 last Friday night to retain the Moran Cup.

In the Winters Cup, Guinness reached the final by beating Terenure 6-5 while NUIM Barnhall toppled 'Tarf, 8-5.

In the O'Connor Cup, St Mary's edged out Bective, while DLSP eased past Clontarf.

Some big victories for 'Rock in the Guilfoyle Cup and also Terenure in the Fox Cup.

Finally, a big shout to my own club St Mary's tomorrow in the AIL.
