Cleared Evans rejoins Scots

Scotland international Max Evans was back at training today after being cleared of assaulting a man at a nightclub.

The 28-year-old was accused of striking Alasdair McCaig with a glass in an Edinburgh nightclub on August 1, 2010.

Evans, who plays for French side Castres, denied the charge and said he had acted in self-defence. A jury returned a verdict of not guilty after a five-day trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Evans smiled and shook hands following the hearing and said: "I'm obviously just very pleased and appreciate the jury's verdict."

The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed the winger was back in contention to play Saturday's Six Nations game against Ireland after missing the defeat against France with an ankle injury.

Jenkins: Agony of semi spurs Welsh

Gethin Jenkins believes the crushing disappointment of Wales' World Cup semi-final defeat against France could be a factor behind their Six Nations title push. Wales will win this season's title and land a Grand Slam if they beat Italy next Saturday and France seven days later -- both in Cardiff.

"The disappointment of losing to France in that semi-final has spurred us on," said the prop.
