Cardiff set to make Ulster blue

Cardiff Blues v Ulster, Cardiff City Stadium, TONIGHT 7.05

It is a mark of the man that Stephen Ferris is bullish about getting back into the Ulster jersey for their Magners League tie away to Cardiff Blues this evening.

He isn't the only one, as fellow Irish internationals Paddy Wallace, Tom Court, Rory Best and Andrew Trimble, plus Scottish winger Simon Danielli, return from the intensity of the Six Nations.

It is that time of the season when Ulster must make their move or be resigned to the life of an also-ran. In reality, they are already too far off the pace to make the semi-finals.

Cardiff are concerned about ensuring their qualification for the Heineken Cup, lying third from bottom ahead of the Scarlets and Connacht. They have under-performed all season long in the Magners.

There will be half a dozen Wales internationals back on the scene to prevent any slip in standards. Gethin Jenkins, Leigh Halfpenny, Richie Rees and Martyn Williams will add a touch of class.

Verdict: Cardiff

Cardiff Blues: B Blair; L Halfpenny, C Laulala, T Shanklin, T James; C Sweeney, R Rees; G Jenkins, R Thomas, T Filise, S Morgan, P Tito (capt), A Powell, M Williams, X Rush.

Ulster: J Smith; A Trimble, D Cave, P Wallace, S Danielli; N O'Connor, P Marshall; T Court, R Best, B Botha, D Tuohy, R Caldwell, S Ferris, D Pollock, C Henry (capt).
