Boys get the tag bug

AFTER eight busy weeks of training, seven teams from Portarlington and Monasterevin boys' schools played in a tag tournament on Portarlington RFC's grounds last Friday. The teams were created by mixing players from different classes and schools.

The concept has been a great success with boys making new friends, schools establishing new relationships and without losing any competitive excitement during games.

Portarlington, who are current Leinster U14 Community Games tag champions, had a chance to train against good opposition and Monasterevin will use future clashes to establish a good competitive side.

Each team played six games at the blitz, displaying great skills. This was a great finishing tournament for sixth-class boys, who are really looking forward to playing full contact rugby next year.
