GLASGOW dangerman Niko Matawalu has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him there to the summer of 2015.
There is an undeniable feel-good factor about the Scottish club these days and the announcement of Matawalu's decision comes as further evidence of their commitment to long-term improvement. It is also a timely boost as Glasgow prepare for the PRO12 League semi-final away to Leinster on Saturday.
"This will give everyone at the club a massive boost ahead of our semi-final this weekend," said Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend. "Niko is a very popular player and he's worked extremely hard since joining the club in the summer. He's become a real fans favourite with his style of play."
The Fijian scrum-half (24) was recently awarded the Warriors' player of the season in his first season at the club on the back of his nine tries in 22 appearances.
He was also named on the Pro12 Dream Team for the season beside full-back Stuart Hogg, prop Ryan Grant and lock Ali Kellock, the most by any one club.
Coach Townsend was rewarded for Glasgow's exciting and effective brand of rugby, taking away the coach of the year prize in his first season at the club. It would seem the announcement of Matawalu's signature comes at just the right time for the player and his clever coach.
