Bective out to prise Vets title from Clontarf

The Leinster Vets (over 35s) League final takes place next Wednesday in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital on the main pitch in Donnybrook (KO 8.0).

Last year's Vets League champions, Clontarf, are clear favourites after an unbeaten run in the league thus far.

With former AIL players such as Darragh McElligott and David Moore, they pack quite a punch.

However, they face strong opposition in Bective Rangers, Vets League and Fox Cup double winners of 2010. Under the captaincy of Wewa (Maeliosa) Power and new player-manager Johnny Vaughan, Bective's former AIL stars Fergal Campion, Fiachra Lennon and John Bolger have strengthened their squad this year.

Guests of honour are Pat Crimin, proud sponsor of the Kiely's of Donybrook League Cup, and Gerry Cully of the Children's Medical and Research Foundation (CMRF), Crumlin Hospital.

Over the last five seasons, the supporters and 'auld' fellas of Leinster Vets rugby have raised thousands of euro for the kids' hospital in Crumlin. Many thanks to all players and supporters of the league, especially the clubs that play year in, year out.

Special mention to Suttonians, Wanderers and Bective Rangers, who have competed every year in the Vets League. Also, both Denis Collins and Wayne Sheridan from the Association of Referees section of the Leinster Branch have always been most helpful in appointing refs, sometimes at very short notice!
