Athy Lions are ploughing their way into combating diabetes

RTE newscasters, together with stars from the world of entertainment and sport, will be having screening tests for diabetes when they turn out at the Athy Lions Club/Athy RFC stand in the National Ploughing Championships in Athy next week.

A simple and straight-forward screening test can detect the possibility of diabetes and Athy Lions Club in conjunction with the Lions clubs of Ireland have arranged for free diabetes screenings at their stand -- No196, Row K -- during the high-profile ploughing event on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Announcing the news this week, Athy Lions Club President Paul Cunningham and Athy RFC President Keith Meredith were very pleased to be able to offer this very valuable screening to all patrons at the ploughing championship. The District Governor of the Lions clubs of Ireland, Terence Mangan said he was encouraging as many people as possible to attend the screening -- which takes only a matter of minutes.

Athy and all of Kildare are looking forward to the ploughing championship. The Athy clubs and the Lions clubs of Ireland hope to announce a high-profile list of celebrities who will be attending their stand at the event next week.
