peamount's eureka moment over kells!

Peamount United eased their way into the second round of the FAI Women's Intermediate Cup as they got the better of Eureka Kells at Greenogue on Sunday afternoon.

A couple of goals from Saidhbh Collins and first-half strikes from Niamh Kenna and Shauna Corrigan did the damage as the home side proved too strong for their Meath visitors.

Joanna Byrne netted Eureka's only goal of the game, but despite the lopsided scoreline the visitors, who played the game with only 10 players, managed to give United a fair few scares over the course of the 90 minutes.

The first of those scares arrived after only two minutes as United were caught asleep when Claragh O'Reilly clipped a neat chip off the United crossbar while Leanne Connell crashed the rebound inches over the top.

United woke up soon after that early fright and went in front when Kenna thumped home from long range, leaving Claire Foley no chance in the Eureka goal.

Kells hit back and, after soaking up heavy United pressure, they drew level when Byrne stroked home from the penalty spot after referee Tommy Traynor had picked out a handball in a crowded area.

United went back in front on the half hour. A strong run down the inside left channel by Corrigan was finished off in emphatic style when the winger unleashed a stunning dipping effort that nestled in the bottom corner of the net.

The visitors started the second half strongly, but their purple patch was ended when Collins tapped home her first of the game when turning home Corrigan's cross.

Collins, a strong running forward with a hammer of a shot, ensured United a safe route to the second round when the striker volleyed home from close range, a clinical finish to top off a clinical performance.
