What a Lark'

LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE pulled off a sensational Houdini-like escape act with a remarkable second-half comeback before substitute Warren Moore scored the winning goal in extra-time to win the CDVEC SCC Bohemian Shield.

(After extra-time)

Larkin had trailed 3-0 at half-time after St Kevin's College had dominated the first-half proceedings.

However, Larkin showed great resilence after the restart to turn the tables in last week's final at the CDVEC Sports Ground in Terenure.

Lady Luck was on Larkin's side for their first goal as Kevin's Anthony Curedale deflected the ball over his own 'keeper Ryan Doherty into the net.

Luck played no part in Larkin's second and third goals, though, with Gabriel Aghinta's brace the sign of a real class act. Aghinta's first was a pile-driver from 25 yards. The striker's second came when Taylor Creane's deep cross fell kindly to him while unmarked and he calmly headed home the equalising goal.

Larkin's remarkable comeback was complete when Moore got on the end of Creane's cross midway through the second period of extra-time, breaking Kevin's hearts in the process.

Kevin's will wonder how they lost a final that had seen them take early control. Michael McCoy latched onto Mitchell Wade's header in the fifth minute before lobbing Larkin 'keeper Sean Toomey. The Saints doubled their lead midway through the half thanks to a clinical strike from McCoy from just outside the penalty area for his second goal.

The Clogher Road outfit must have felt their name was on the Shield when Wade scored their third on the stroke of half-time. But it was Larkin who defied the odds.
