Walsh and Byrne sizzle in Scratch Cup at Ierne

IERNE had the look of Augusta about it. And local knowledge saw Mick Walsh take home the green jacket.

The Scratch Cup was a spectacular success. The condition of the Ierne course won the applause of all.

The temperature was hot. So was the scoring. Fourteen made the play-off. Ninety-six -- 12 under par -- was the high water mark.

The holder, Darren O'Reilly (CPM), made the cut, but it was the wizard Walsh who remained in pole position. There was more good news for Ierne as Paudge Donoghue claimed the runners-up spot, with Lucan's Chris Gallagher third.

Chrissie Byrne of St Bridget's was leading lady.
