Tribunal begins in Higgins fix claims

John Higgins has begun the final stage in his quest to clear his name after allegations he was involved in frame-fixing.

The Scot, who firmly denies the claims, will appear at a two-day tribunal in London.

Higgins was suspended by World Snooker since the sport was rocked by the frame-fixing allegations on May 2 when a British tabloid newspaper alleged that Higgins and his manager Pat Mooney had agreed to take money to influence the outcome of matches.

Doherty survives

Ireland's Ken Doherty and Joe Delaney both cleared their opening hurdles in the Shanghai Masters, but not before the 1997 World Champion was given an almighty scare.

Delaney eased into the last 32 of the season's first world-ranking tournament with a 5-1 victory over Chinese wild card Li Yan, but Doherty almost came a cropper against Mohammad Sajjad, an amateur from Pakistan. He trailed 4-2 but he dug deep to take the match 5-4.
