Toyota cross line on Munster deal Swann celebrates 100th wicket after tough week Further injury setback hits Euro hero Smyth

RUGBY: Munster yesterday announced details of their continued partnership with Toyota, declaring a new sponsorship deal worth €5.75m over the next three seasons.

The deal brings Toyota's investment to well beyond the €13m mark since coming on board as principal sponsors in July 2004. However, there was also confirmation that Paul O'Connell is unlikely to play any rugby until next December as he continues to work his way back from a groin injury.

Awesome Atwal shows Woods the way to go

GOLF: Tiger Woods' regular practice partner Arjun Atwal showed form the American can only dream about of late when he fired a course record-equalling 61 for a first-round lead at the Wyndham Championship yesterday in North Carolina.

The Florida-based Indian took advantage of soggy conditions at Sedgefield Country Club that allowed preferred lies and players to fire fearlessly at the pins to take a two-stroke lead over American Brandt Snedeker.

Players at the Wyndham Championship are striving to collect late points to qualify in the top 125 for the four lucrative FedEx Cup playoff events, the first of which starts at the August 26-29 Barclays Classic.

Swann celebrates 100th wicket after tough week

cricket: Graeme Swann admitted his delight at claiming his 100th Test wicket following an up-and-down week for the England spinner.

The 31-year-old started the week in court answering a drink-driving charge and after being omitted from the Cricketer of the Year awards was yesterday added to the list of candidates.

That came on the day he reached 100 Test wickets when he claimed a return catch from recalled batsman Mohammad Yousuf. Swann finished with figures of 4-68 in Pakistan's first innings of 308, a lead of 75.

Further injury setback hits Euro hero Smyth

ATHLETICS: Derry sprinter Jason Smyth, who made history by reaching the 100m semi-finals at last month's European Championships, has been forced out of the Commonwealth Games with a back injury. It is a recurrence of the problem that curtailed Smyth's training before the Europeans.
