Torrans inspires Green to hard-fought glory

Loreto Stephen's Green, in their first Senior final for a number of years, claimed the Senior Girls' Plate with a 2-1 win over Teresians at Grange Road last Friday, writes Stephen Findlater.

They got off to a quick start when, with about five minutes gone, a move down the right ended with Sarah Torrans finding Ellie Wilde free in the circle, who calmly finished to make it 1-0 to Loreto.

The rest of the half was a fairly even affair with no real clear cut chances for either team. Teresians did, however, win a couple of short corners which were well defended.

The second half started in the same vein with neither team dominating the play. Loreto increased their lead halfway through the second half through an individual effort from Torrans. Under increasing pressure from Teresians, they managed to defend their lead until the end.

Teresians scored a short corner with the final play of the game to get one back but it was too late for them to force a shot at extra-time.

It meant that they missed out on doing a double following their win a week earlier against Holy Child Killiney in the Senior One league final. Co-captain Rachel Dillon got them off to a great start then before Evie Regan made the game more comfortable. Judy Deane got one back for Holy Child but Teresians held on for a 2-1 win.
