Tearful Bubba back in action

GOLF: Masters champion Bubba Watson has admitted to yet more tears before his return to golf in New Orleans this week.

"Pretty much every day I cry," said Watson.

The American, the defending champion at the Zurich Classic, added: "I would love to be at home right now watching my little boy and spending time with my wife, but I'm here because I just felt like it was the right thing to do."

Katie London bid may require final

Boxing: In a worst-case scenario, Katie Taylor will have to reach the lightweight final at the AIBA World Championships in China next month to guarantee qualification for the Olympics.

If Taylor, who will be aiming for her fourth world title in-a-row, reaches the semi-finals and there are three other Europeans in the last-four, she may still not have qualified for London.

However, if she lost at that stage to the eventual gold medallist, that would secure her place. Ideally, the earlier Taylor's European rivals depart, the quicker the Bray boxer can qualify.

McCann keeping in touch in Korea

Cycling: Belfast man David McCann kept within touching distance of the overall race lead at the Tour of Korea on stage three after he crossed in 11th place to sit just nine seconds behind leader Chan Jae Jang.

In Switzerland, Ireland's Matt Brammeier and Dan Martin suffered in the wet to finish well down in the Tour de Romandie's prologue time trial, won by Team Sky's Geraint Thomas.

Letterkenny's Philip Deignan lost five minutes to stage winner Ivailo Grabovsky on stage three of the Tour of Turkey yesterday and is currently 23rd overall.
