Swords' sharp shooters cruise to Under-10 win

Swords Manor 4

Rush Athletic 1

Despite getting an early fright in this NDSL Under-10 clash on Brackenstown Road, Swords Manor cruised to victory on Saturday morning against Rush Athletic.

The home side had some terrific performances which saw them claim the victory. However, it was Rush who opened the scoring after eight minutes.

Adam Brogan crossed from the right where Ben Ferguson was on hand at the near post to volley home.

For the home side Alan O'Shea was outstanding throughout with some wonderful deliveries sailing in from the right wing all game.

It was O'Shea's cross after 12 minutes which set up Thomas Whelan to lob the ball home.

A couple of minutes later it was 2-1 to Swords. Again O'Shea's delivery sparked it off and when his cross to the back post was collected by Robert Donnery, he passed to Whelan who, with his back to goal, out-thought everyone to back-heel into the net.

A minute into the second half the home side moved 3-1 ahead when Sean Mullally found the back of the net. To their credit though, Rush never gave up, but in the end the home side were just too strong for them and they made it 4-1 late on when O'Shea was upended in the area to earn a penalty and he picked himself up to slam home the spot-kick.
