Schools sign up for Shuttle Time

MORE than 70 Irish schools have signed up for Badminton Ireland's Shuttle Time for Schools programme, which will officially start in September.

Launched two months ago, the scheme provides primary and secondary teachers with a structured programme of training sessions suitable for pupils all ages.

Over 22 half-hour lessons, students will learn the fundamentals of the sport – how to swing a racquet, hit a shuttle and move around the court. With Badminton Ireland providing nets, shuttles and a €350 racquet bag to schools who sign up, all that's needed is a medium-sized hall. The scheme is free to schools who affiliate to Badminton Ireland for a nominal annual fee of €10.
