Saints aiming for salvation

THE Nivea For Men's SuperLeague and Nivea Women's SuperLeague resume following the drama of last weekend's National Cup action.

The meeting of UCD Marian and DCU Saints will see two sides licking their wounds after their cup exit in their last series of games, while also today, UCC Demons and 11890 Killester will take on Moycullen and Belfast Star respectively.

Tomorrow, Bord Gais Neptune take on UL Eagles in a Southern Conference top-of-the-table clash.

DCU Saints will be desperate to return to league affairs after their cup interests ended last weekend away to UCC Demons. Tomorrow, they take on a UCD Marian side reeling after defeats to UL Eagles in the cup and 11890 Killester, who they lost to a day later in the league.

HEARTBREAK

Saints' cup heartbreak will have been softened by the news that Pat Glover was named Northern Conference Player of the Month for November, while head coach David Donnelly received the Coach of the Month award. UCD will be distraught to have relinquished their crown so early in this year's cup competition, but their cause hasn't been helped by an injury to talisman Dan James.

January promises to be an exciting month, as Bord Gais Neptune take on UCC Demons in an all Cork National Cup semi-final.

This weekend, Neptune face a difficult assignment at home to UL Eagles, while Demons travel to Moycullen.

Despite their progress, Neptune will be looking for a vast improvement as they only managed to edge past Belfast Star by a solitary point, but they will have been heartened by the consistent performances of their American, Ron Thompson.

Today, in the Nivea Women's SuperLeague, 11890 Killester host Team Montenotte Hotel, while Waterford Wildcats and Meteors will be looking to bounce back to winning ways against Oblate Dynamos and Liffey Celtics respectively.
