GOLF: Rory McIlroy remains in the running to top the European Tour money list - but will have to win this week's Dubai World Championship.
•Luke Donald currently leads the list with €3,856,394 and will become the first player to top the money lists in Europe and America in the same season if he finishes ninth or better in Dubai -- or if McIlroy fails to win.
•The world's top two players will go head to head in the opening round on Thursday, the day after Donald's 34th birthday.
•McIlroy, winner of the Hong Kong Open this weekend, has played six more counting tournaments, but trails by €789,788. First prize on Sunday, though, is $1.25m (€930,000).
•The Northern Irishman had to be in the top two at Fanling to keep the race alive and winning means his last five finishes in European Tour events have been first, fourth, second, third and third.
•Donald's last start on the circuit was his 11th place at the Madrid Masters on October 9. His lead then was over €1.3m.
•He was due to play the HSBC World Championship in Shanghai last month and could have clinched the crown there, but withdrew while waiting for the birth of his second daughter.
