Race to Rio gets critical

hockey

IRELAND kept world champions Australia quiet for long periods of their match in Antwerp yesterday but still went down 4-1.

The result of yesterday's quarter-final at the World League tournament means that Craig Fulton's side must win their two remaining matches to qualify for next year's Olympics. The result means that the losers will meet Pakistan in the opening round of the fifth place play-offs tomorrow, with the winners of that game having one more opportunity on Sunday to secure the prized ticket to Rio.
