Promising Irish pedallers prepare to take on world in Junior Tour

The 35th edition of the Junior Tour sponsored on this occasion by The Warehouse.ie will be based in County Clare for the six-day competition.

Starting next Tuesday in Ennis, it has attracted an entry in excess of 80 competitors.

The 500km race will attract strong international competition with some of the best junior cyclists in the world competing against Ireland's most promising young riders.

Last year's six-stage event, which was held in County Mayo, was won by 17-year-old Colin Joyce of US team Hot Tubes. Stena Line Ireland team member and Newry-native Cormac Clarke, also 17, finished third.

The Stena Line Ireland Team to compete this year has been announced and includes Thomas Fallon (Galway), Eddie Dunbar (Cork), Matthew Doyle (Derry) and Dylan Foley (Cork). Teams representing all four Irish provinces and clubs from all over Ireland will also be participating.

Three of the race stages will start and finish in Ennis with the remaining three finishing in Barefield, Cooraclare and Gallows Hill. The race will feature 21 categorised hills.
