O'Brien set to inspire

Round Tower, Clondalkin v Nh Mearnóg

(O'Toole Park, Today, 4.30)

THE Hoops have produced some worthy performances this term. Things are on the up.

John O'Brien is a fabulous footballer, while Derek Murray and Ian Ward are Clondalkin Colts.

Tower lost to Syls on the first day out, but they'll have gained from the experience of playing against one of the premier sides.

Mearnóg fell to Templeogue Synge Street. Shane Ryan the First is back with the big ball. His namesake also offers much, as does the genial John Madden.

The Portmarnock club were chuffed on returning to senior football. They gave Templeogue a good run the last day.

They'll have to make sure to contain the guile of Tower's men like Eoin Moran, Mark Taylor and Mick Hallows but in O'Brien the Clondalkin outfit have a match-winner.

Last year -- Round Tower, Clondalkin: 4th Round. Nh Mearnóg: Qualifiers.

Last time champs -- Round Tower: Never. Nh Mearnóg: Never.

2010 Championship Road -- Round Tower's, Clondalkin: Lost to St Sylvester's by 8 points. Nh Mearnóg: Lost to Templeogue Synge Street by two points.

Form -- Nh Mearnóg (Division 2): W5 L7 D2. Round Tower Clondalkin (Division 2): W7 L4 D2.

VERDICT: Round Tower, Clondalkin

Fins' hold the edge

Fingallians v Clontarf

(Naul, Today, 4.30)

CLONTARF had some prosperous moments against Lucan. Ace freetaker Ian O'Dwyer converted six frees.

Tarf had the batteries in the boots. Any chance they got, they ran at the Lucan defence. They are easy on the eye.

Neil Shanahan and Kevin Devine patrolled the midfield. Brian Stokes and Robert Stokes can provide invention, while Rossa O'Brien is a capable net-minder.

Paul Flynn is so often the heart-beat of Fins. Two good hands and two better feet.

David Markey is a diligent defender and Donal Farrell leads by his actions.

David Killeen and Eoin Martin will hope to receive a good amount of ball. It should be an interesting one but we give the nod to the Swords side.

Last year -- Fingallians: Qualifiers. Clontarf: 3rd Round.

Last time champs -- Fingallians: Never. Clontarf: Never.

2010 Championship Road -- Fingallians: Lost to St Anne's by 6 points. Clontarf: Lost to Lucan Sarsfields by 4 points.

Form -- Fingallians (Division 2): W7 L6. Clontarf (Division 3): W9 L5.

VERDICT: Fingallians
