OATLANDS U-16s progressed to the Eastern Regional league semi-finals after defeating Coláiste éanna on Monday.
THE Stillorgan men were pressed all the way in the first quarter by the visitors, with Daumantas Butkus working hard for Oatlands, and at the end of the quarter the game was 15-15.
An injury to Aidan Beshoff had an effect on Oatlands' progress, with a series of turnovers and bad shooting seeing the home side facing a 20-29 deficit at the interval.
But with Evan Egan, Sean Murphy and Jake Gamboa running the fast break well and Butkus and Tom Kakilala dominating in the post, Oatlands edged back in front 38-37 heading into the final period.
With the teams tied with a minute to go, Murphy showed nerves of steel to convert two from the free-throw line.
A good offence from éanna saw the teams level once more before a sideline offence on Gamboa saw him convert three of his four free throws to hand Oatlands a 49-46 win.
In the U-19A affair, Themba Nkoala, a recent Evening Herald Sports Star of the Week recipient, continued his rich vein of form as he shot 33 points in Oatlands 66-45 win over the same opposition.
