Noble nabs maiden honours for Setanta

AT THE recent West Leinster Schools Cross-Country Championships in the Phoenix Park, Ongar's Coláiste Pobail Setanta entered its first team.

The all-male athletics squad from the new Dublin 15 school had been training hard for the event since January.

The school opened its doors in September 2008 and at present has 135 pupils. Last year the school was not in a position to enter a team, but this year the team made history for the school by winning their first-ever medal.

In the boys' 1,500m race, which featured 170 competitors, Setanta's Seán Noble finished in a very impressive second.

Other members of the team who finished in notable positions were Joseph Kuye (eighth) and Ruben Miranda (17th).

Their coach, Hayley McCann, was delighted with the school's performance. "The majority of the team have no experience whatsoever in long distance running," she said.

"To complete the race is a credit in itself, but to actually have someone placed in the top three is outstanding. The future for Coláiste Pobail Setanta is promising!"
