Trainer Joe Gallagher's Denton gym has lost lightweight John Murray (31-1). Murray got the shock of his career when stopped in the eighth round by Kevin Mitchell in July.
With his career derailed, an offer to challenge Texan Brandon Rios for the WBA world lightweight title in Madison Square Garden on December 3 has given the Manchester boxer a new impetus.
"I've got a new start," he says. "I've changed trainers. I know what Rios is about so I'm ready to go and shock everyone."
Regarded as an underdog with little hope of taking away the American's title on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito bout, Murray is bigging up his chances of causing an upset.
"If you have a bet, I'll be worth every penny," he promises. "I've got to use my brain. Then I want revenge with Kevin."
