Portrane needed a victory to clinch the Senior Sunday division by a point from North County Dublin rivals Baldoyle.

OLV pushed them for a large part but they came through comfortably in the end.

Early goal to settle the nerves required and it arrived in minute nine. A Keith Finn cross from the left was met by Barry Ward who needed a second bite but found the net.

The men from Ballyer hit back though seven minutes later.

A long free-kick from Mark McCabe was deflected to Ian Clifford who drilled low to the far corner from the left.

The home side took the lead to the break with them when Peter Evans rose to head home a Ward corner from the left on 27.

Midway through the second half they were in the comfort zone somewhat.

Evans played it up the right to Ross Gosling, he fed Dave Mahon who found explorer Scott Finnegan on the far stick and he fired home with a cracking finish to the back of the net.

Mahon, an inspired substitution, wrapped matters up six minutes later with a fine individual goal.

Skipping by three defenders he rounded it off with a superb chip to give Portrane the title.
