GOLF: britain's Lee Westwood replaced Germany's Martin Kaymer as world number one in the new rankings today after Luke Donald failed to win The Heritage in South Carolina.
Although Westwood sealed a three-stroke win at the Indonesian Masters yesterday, his compatriot Donald had the chance to take over at the top because the Heritage carries more ranking points than the Asian Tour event.
Donald held a one-shot lead going into the final round at Harbour Town Golf Links but lost a play-off for the title with American Brandt Snedeker at the third extra hole.
Auto: Derek McGarrity beat Kenny McKinstry by 41.7 seconds to claim his fifth win in the Circuit of Ireland rally. McGarrity, in his S11 Subaru WRC, joined the legendary Paddy Hopkirk as a five-time winner of Ireland's premier rally.
TENNIS: Rafa Nadal underlined his crushing dominance on clay when he overwhelmed Spanish compatriot David Ferrer 6-2 6-4 to win a sixth Barcelona Open title in seven years. His run in the Catalan capital was interrupted by his withdrawal last year due to injury.
