IRELAND'S Louk Sorensen shocked the tennis world by beating Yen-Hsun Lu in the first-round of the Australian Open today, the first time in 25 years that an Irish player has won a grand slam match.
"It's the biggest achievement of my career so far," said German-based Sorensen, after outscoring his Taiwanese opponent 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-1. "I got through the first round now so I'm very happy. I don't know what it will be like in Ireland. I don't want to know until after the tournament."
Sorensen now plays 6ft 9ins American giant John Isner tomorrow and after revealing his coach had been unable to travel to Australia, said he was likely to prepare for the match by watching YouTube.
"He (coach) had to go back to Germany, he has an important meeting," he added. "Isner is a big server. I have never played anyone that tall. I am maybe going to watch a few points on YouTube."
