Legend Kelly to race west coast classic

Mention Sean Kelly's name and the topic immediately switches to bikes. A couple of months ago he was looking forward to next month and the Fáilte Ireland Tour with the professionals whizzing around the countryside, but that recently changed when the plug was pulled on the race.

Instead, Sean will now be a participant in Ireland's first closed road mass participation cycling event, the Sky Ride Etape Hibernia, which takes place in Co Clare on August 22.

Sean is the latest addition to a dazzling roster of celebrities and professional cyclists who will assemble on the start line in Ennis next month.

Leading Irish comedian PJ Gallagher is also set to take on the challenge alongside an estimated 2,000 participants.

Kelly said of the event, which will take in some of Ireland's most scenic locations including the Atlantic coastline and the world famous Burren region: "The Etape Hibernia will only enhance our reputation as a cycling nation and great hosts to visitors and tourists."
