Larkin make waves with double

LARKIN CC sailed to the Best Overall School titles at last week's action-packed swimming gala at Ballyfermot's Sport and Leisure Centre.

Larkin impressively retained the boys' title with combined scores from the minor, junior and intermediate categories. The girls' team also pulled out all the stops in the pool to dethrone defending champions Presentation Terenure.

It was a clean sweep of victories for Larkin boys' freestyle and medley relays teams. Dion Piggot, Denis Guizan, Jordan Hutch and Conor Piggot won the minor freestyle before Robert McCabe, Jordan Dooley, Ryan Fay and Timer Vorobjtov claimed the junior freestyle title. McCabe, Vorobjtov, Dooley and Zoltan Kalderas then powered their way to victory in the junior medley race.

In the girls' contest, Larkin, on the back of individual gold medals from Denise Hopkins, Emma Mullen, Maguire and Jane Eyre Larkin were crowned champions.

On the senior front, Coláiste íde's girls' side successfully defended their crown with winning performances from Lisa O'Connell (backstroke), Emma Shilladay (freestyle) and Tina Donnelly (breaststroke).

Crumlin College won the senior boys' top prize, taking the freestyle and medley relays with outstanding swims from Paul Dooley, Joseph Cassidy, Paul Hunt and Keith Mooney. Hunt and Cassidy also won individual gold in the breaststroke and butterfly.
