Larkin Community College, Coláiste Eoin and Crumlin College climbed their way to success to win the respective VEC SCC Junior, Intermediate and Senior Bouldering titles at the finals recently held at Coláiste Eoin and Larkin CC.
The Larkin boys and girls junior teams' impressive scoring on the 15 wall climbs handed the north inner city school the title ahead of Kylemore College and the hosts Eoin.
Larkin's Merabbee Bendeliani and Daniel Thompson of Eoin joint scored with 132 to share the individual spoils, while Wiktor Lesiak finished second ahead of Larkin's Halvinio Desalles.
Bendeliani then completed the double by winning the speed climb final, narrowly beating Lesiak in a competitive race off.
Jodie Boylan's first-rate climbing technique throughout saw the Larkin student capture the junior girls' individual and speed climb honours with her colleagues Shauna Mitchell and Lisa Bradley taking second and third place respectively. Eoin were impressive in the intermediate competition with Christopher Dignam Healy scoring 123 points out of a possible 130 to claim the individual title. Alexander Novak and Gerard Scully added silver and bronze for the Finglas School.
Shannon Thomas' achievements in the individual climbs secured further gold medal success for Eoin. Thomas then powered home in the final of the speed climb against her school colleague, Clara Hilliard, to claim her second gold of the day. In the senior contest Crumlin College took top honours in the individual climbs courtesy of Alan Phelan, Craig Grehan and Noel Hanrahan with Grehan taking gold in the speed climb final.
