LaCava becomes Tiger's caddie

GOLF: Tiger Woods has announced Joe LaCava as his new caddie.

LaCava had been the long-term bagman for Fred Couples, but the pair split in the summer. He then teamed up with Dustin Johnson, who was playing at the Tour Championship over the weekend and was informed of the news by LaCava after the final round.

A frenetic final day at the Tour Championship ultimately ended with Bill Haas winning both the event and the FedExCup honours, though it took a while for his double success to sink in.

The 29-year-old American beat compatriot Hunter Mahan in a sudden-death play-off but he did not realise he had also scooped the season-long playoff jackpot of $10m until the trophy presentation.

Pádraig sees positives

Pádraig Harrington normally would not take much pleasure from a 36th-place finish on one-under, 11 strokes shy of the play-off.

Yet, after signing for his closing 72, the Dubliner was quite chipper about his first Austria Open and the opportunity it gave him to put his new swing to the test.

"It was very worthwhile," he said.

Kenneth Ferrie beat fellow Englishman Simon Wakefield in a play-off to lift the title.
